Advanced skills for treating OCD:  The latest cognitive and behavioural strategies to help you get your client unstuck

This in depth training and group supervision is being provided by Dr Danielle Einstein and Professor Jessica Grisham throughout 2025.

In the workshop we will improve your expertise in treating OCD by briefly reviewing the basics of evidence-based treatment for OCD before delving into advanced skills training. We will discuss strategies to maximise the benefits of exposure and cognitive approaches for different types of OCD presentations. We will look at how acceptance-based strategies may be integrated into treatment, to improve exposure based on recent research and our own clinical practice. We will cover novel cognitive strategies to increase treatment engagement. By the end of this presentation, clinicians should have new approaches to address motivational issues head-on, a range of skills and techniques to use in treatment and know how to get the most out of exposure. We will discuss how to tailor your treatment and provide practical suggestions and tips for challenging OCD presentations.

The workshop is followed by 5 monthly group supervision sessions. Whilst advanced strategies are provided in the two part workshop running in March, you will ensure learnings can be applied in your own practice by attending the bi-monthly scheduled zoom supervision sessions. Supervision will help you to recognise underlying motivational traps that can interfere with progress. Listen to your peers as the group discusses therapeutic challenges every second month. In this part of the training, you will learn to recognise signs that OCD treatment is veering off track and be encouraged to reset your direction. Providing effective OCD treatment can be challenging and this workshop and training is designed to help you improve your competence in delivering effective treatment to your clients.

Failure to Launch:

Working effectively with clients and their families to navigate doona days and tame worry.

Do you have teenage or young adult clients who are anxious and worry a lot? Do they get stuck in their heads or screens, avoiding their daily responsibilities, or refusing to do anything without a safe or certain outcome? Are parents concerned about their potential 'failure to launch' and do you want to help them turn avoidant patterns around?

This training program is designed specifically for health professionals working with anxiety in teenagers and their families. This workshop will focus on addressing Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), anxiety, and avoidance, as well as the intertwined issues of device use, worry, and family beliefs, which can stall treatment progress.

The workshop also includes a section from Dr Judith Locke with parenting ideas to ensure the homes of teens with anxiety remain harmonious and on track.

Workshop Breakdown:

Understand what to prioritise during assessment; how to position treatment and essential steps to engage with both teenagers and their parents to promote change. Work through Dr Einstein's 'What-When model' to assist teens and young adults to navigate worry, panic and social anxiety.

Workshop: Wed, 26th February 2025, 9.30am to 3.30 pm (AEST)

Group supervision: Join 3 group supervision sessions over the subsequent Wednesdays to support your learnings (Optional) We have chosen supervisors deliberately with different strengths to complement one another and provide a rounded discussion of the workshop components. Issues relating to neurodivergence will be discussed within group supervision.
